Bolla to captain Boland
Monday, January 11
Springbok scrumhalf Bolla Conradie, 31, has been appointed the new Boland Cavaliers captain following his decision to move across from neighbours Western Province for the 2010 season.
Boland coach Eugene Eloff had little hesitation in naming the experienced Test campaigner as his captain for the forthcoming season.
Conradie's contract at Western Province expired at the end of 2009 and this has paved the way for a move to Wellington. He will join up with his new teammates at the end of January. He is currently in training for the Stormers who are without the services of Springbok scrumhalf Enrico Januarie who is currently overseas playing for the Ospreys.
"When I got the job as Boland coach I immediately thought we should get a popular and experienced player to lead us through the season.
"I believe Bolla is that man. He played at the highest level and is the kind of player up and coming youngsters can look up to," Eloff told Sports24.
The nuggety scrumhalf last played for the Springboks in 2008 in a 19-8 loss to the All Blacks in Wellington. Eloff also hopes to involve Conradie as a backline coach for the union.
The Cavaliers will compete in the Currie Cup First Division after being relegated by the Pumas in their playoff battle last season.
