Louw cleared of punching
Dec 05,2012
Springbok and Bath loose forward Francois Louw has been cleared on a punching charge by a Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing.
Louw appeared before an RFU disciplinary panel after receiving a red card for punching or striking an opponent, contrary to Law 10.4 (a), in Bath's 17-12 Premiership loss to Leicester Tigers on Saturday, December 1.
The citing was dismissed in its entirety, suggesting that the referee had erred in sending Louw off in the first place, or at the very least that the incident warranted a lesser penalty.
27-year-old Louw impressed for South Africa on their recent European tour, and played a crucial role in helping Springboks claim three successive victories over Ireland, Scotland and England.
