Quo vadis Chilli Boy
May 20, 2012, 11:41:07
ou sapster has been talking this lad up since juniour days but its all going nowhere in tersm of the boks. Very clearly the best hookers we have are Bissie, Adriaan and Liebenberg. Chilli is nowhere in their class. Meyer should have little problem in selecting the bok hookers and chilli boy should not be there - end of story. Back to the drawing boards sapster! Who had the better game at loosehead - Coenie or Beast. Overall value it was Coenie but which of the too is the stronger scrummager? Jannie again failed to impress. His work rate compared to WP was poor. Can we not find a better tighthead!!! Coetzee again was good and is really knocking hard on the door. Jordaan needs a bit more experience but if not at center now how about wing for the Boks - he has the pace .JP lacks pace and should continue at center. Cheetahs were really pressing at end and should have got at least a bonus point for their efforts. Hoped for more from van Zyl.

Goos contest between Strauss and d Plessis on the weekend. They play different styles, therefore it is difficult to really say who is the better one of the two. Strauss fooled du Plessis and ran over Mvovo when he scored the try. I thing Straus is the more clever one of the two and du Plessis the more physical - du Plessis does some really stupid stuff. He tackles (if you can callit that) without arms and the kick of the ball while lying in the loose (not seen by ref or AR - but clear on the replay) - actions like these will cost his team in the long run. Liebenberg also suffers from too much agression sometimes.

Clearly after the game the rumour that Heynecke want's to make Strauss captain is not as stupid as some people may think. There was not much to choose between the 2 even though Bismarck took the MOM i think strauss played just as well, He will not bring shame to the bok captaincy. He has the game as well as the leadership and is nowhere short on brains.

Ek if you are really in need of a captain Strauss could be your man. Its out of Jean and Adriaan for Bok captain. You could play Bissie off the bench to mop up things! I think Meyer will start with Bissie with Jean as captain. Adriaan with his extra mobility is also a nice impact player. Not a lot in it as you rightly say. One proviso though is that if the oppostion have a real tough pack go with Bissie - in those type of games he is indispensible. Sapster I do hope your longstanding views on chilli boy have been scrapped? Surely you can see he is not in this league as I have been telling you for years.

I won't argue that Chilli has had two below par weeks, but he has been very good this season. Both Strauss and Bizzie have also had bad games this season, so one can't judge based on one or two poor performances. If Chilli is losing form and the trend continues, then its Bizzie and Strauss all the way, but what happens if Chili has a huge game this coming weekend, and Bizzie has a clanger....then the debate starts all over again. Lets see what happens this coming weekend...if Chili again has a bad game, then it is a dip in form, and that is enough to exclude him.

Bluebok if you put down your blue coloured glasses and stop for a moment to consider the matter the first question to ask is has ou chilli boy ever come even close to the standard we saw from Bissie and Adriaan. The answer is NEVER. He is nowhere near that level. Week in and week out these two and, in my opinion Liebenberg, out perfrom chilli boy.

No glasses here Beans, Chili has had a good season and deserves to be considered. He offers something different to Strauss, because he acts as another loosie and is a threat as a fetcher, something that Strauss lacks. Strauss has his good attributes and is good in the traditional role as a hooker, but also has weaknesses. Horses for courses. I think Chili is an option that is all I am saying. I think a lot of folks automatically are biassed against him because of his inclusion in the Springbok mix a few years back when he didn't deserve it. But for the last year or so he has become more than just a token player. As for Bizzie, he is my first choice, no question, but he has also been an absolute liability at times in both the Sharks and Boks colours. All I want is the two form players to be picked for the Boks, regardless of who they are. Just on Liebenerg, he is not being mentioned enough in the hooker debate. Again, a very different kind of player.

Its a bit insulting to Bismark, Strauss and Chiliboy mentioning the useless Liebenberg in the same breathe. Bismark is the best hooker in the game. The call between Strauss and Chiliboy is very close and changes week by week. Strauss has the honours in the past 2 weeks, Chiliboy probably had the a months work prior to the last two weeks. Liebenberg does not feature at all, he brings nothing to the game other than the odd cheap shot that concedes penalties. Burden, Maku, Callie Visagie and Deon Fourie are all better hookers.
