Mighty Stormers hunt Bok flank

Francois Louw (File)

Cape Town - The Stormers are eager to regain the services of Springbok flank Francois Louw after an injury crisis at loose forward.

Die Burger reports the Capetonians are working hard to gain the services of an experienced loose forward and they have Louw in their sights.

The Stormers are short of loose forward experience with Schalk Burger, Duane Vermeulen and Nick Koster all out with knee injuries.

The trio that did duty in their last match against the Force - Siya Kolisa, Rynhardt Elstadt and Nizaam Carr - did exceptionally well but lack experience.

And Louw could just provide that much needed experience. He was one of their stars in 2010 and 2011, with his ball-poaching ability at the breakdowns earning him his Springbok colours.

He left Western Province in July last year to take up a contract with English club Bath, whom he captained this year.

Despite also recovering from a knee injury sustained on 24 March this year, he is expected to be ready for action shortly.

The 26-year-old has played 10 Tests for the Springboks since he made his debut against Wales in Cardiff in 2010. His last Test was South Africa's agonising 11-9 World Cup quarter-final defeat to Australia in Wellington, New Zealand last year.

Wonder if he will play 6 a she has done at times.  Elsatdt may not be easily accomodated elsewhere but at 7. Play Carr at 8 and drop Kolisi?

We need the extra grunt Louw would provide when we face the top sides

I agree with Beeno here, if Louw is available, then he needs to play. I rate the guy, and lord knows our teams need fetchers. I'd make space for Louw, even if just on the bench at first.

Bleubok, the history shows that Beeno does not think that Louw is that important to the Stormers/WP.

Hahaha, you and 'ol Beeno just don't see eye to eye, do ya? Anyway, F louw has had some good games and some not so good games for the Boks, so the verdict is still out on him as a Springbok, but in Super Rugby he is outstanding, and most sides would readily have him play for them.

We tollerate each other. I rate Louw, and I think he was unfortunate to have been involved in a Bok-setup that was not the ideal situation for anybody............... well, any Bok player over the last four years actually.

Windpomp I said that we could do without Louw for a particualr match as we had Burger, Vermulen and Pieter Louw avaialble. I did not say we didn't need him.

Louw is a fetcher and therefore 6 suits him. Louw is too slow for an 8. So if Louw is 6 and Elsatdt -a Bok contender - is 7, then Carr seems the natural choice for 8. All very logical.

Kolisi can see if he can make an impact off the bench as he has some of the ingredients of a good impact player. I thought Carr was better than Kolisi against the Force.

Come on Beenbal, you know, and I know that the discussion was at the time that Louw signed for Bath, and it was about Louw being lost for the Stormers.

FL is a huge talent and so is Kolisi......I agree 8  is where Louw should be playing and to suggest dropping Kolisi is plain nonsense.
