Sharks on recruitment drive

News from the Sharks camp is that the injury problem that we reported on yesterday has seen Sharks management jump into a recruitment drive.
Sharksworld.co.za reports that the Sharks have requested Lions players Jaco Kriel and Andries Coetzee to join training to try out for the Sharks Super Rugby squad. Both these 23 year olds are talented, but their involvement in the Sharks’ Super Rugby campaign depends on their performance at training, and perhaps even in a Vodacom Cup match.
Kriel’s call up indicates that Jacques Botes’ injury is as serious as first expected, a broken arm, but that will only be confirmed at a press conference later today. Coetzee will be a direct replacement for Louis Ludik, who seems set on missing the rest of the Super Rugby season.
Kriel will start training with the team this week while Coetzee completes the last week of his rehab before starting full training next week. It appears that both players are being looked at to tour with the squad as they both have Super Rugby experience, Coetzee being able to cover both fullback and wing while Kriel is a like-for-like replacement for Botes.
The players will both be happy to get game time after the Lions’ tour of the USA was cancelled last week, due to a lack of funding and the realisation that the opposition will not be worth the money spent.
Good move by Plum - we may have to follow this example and look around look around. Lions player should have all joined Suyper 15 franchises apart from the queens of course.
