It was not pretty but as they say a win is a win. We seemed to be happy with defending the lead in the second half which was sad to see.

The back three were good, de Jongh a complete non entity, what a waste of time he is. Jean had one of his better outings. Lambie was solid enough, Pienaar was poor.

As predicted the Bok pack struggled in the scrums thanks to poor selection in the engine room with Steenkamp and Jeandre Kruger. Jannie played under an injury cloud, so that was probably one game too far. Strauss was not great today, they should have broughts Brits on earlier. Did Steenkamp play? Etzebeth was as big as ever. Kruger just does not get stuck in and at times fails to impose himself in the tackle. We need to find a real partner for Etzebeth next year.

It was a good win considering in my opinion we were missing 8 first choice players and England were only missing Foden, Hartley, Croft and Lawes

What ho di Fattie.....you should pick against the Boks more often. We weren't going to win in the 2007 RWC because Jake picked Monty and Os, we weren't going to beat the Lions because Adi was playing and now because of Steenkamp and Kruger, both of whom were super today by the way.....we weren't going to beat the Poms. Why not just cork it and do the deep dive.

By the way I agree with your comment that Jean had one of his better outings. But then I recall you said he was done and dusted?  Reminds me of when you said the same thing about Habana.

Jean is done, he had a better outing, that does not mean he was a threat now was he. He has been damn poor for most of the season, today he was better than that.

Oh without a doubt he is done, no way in hell should he be part of the Boks next season and he wont as Frans will be back at 12, we know Meyer is a huge Frans fan and rightly so.

Swami Jean beats Frans by 10 metres over the hundred. He'll be back ....Frans is no test 12. In any case you saying he wont, pretty much guarantees he will.

It is not whether Meyer like Francois Steyn or not - it is whether he can prove himself in Super 15 that should be the deciding factor.   I do not think Steyn was any better than De Villiers at 12 this year - matter of fact in some respects he was poorer.   I think that supporting Sreyn to play ar 12 should be based on performance - not on reputation.  

However, I agree that De Villiers is approaching the end of his playing career - and want to add that I would  be surpeised if he does not bow out earlier than expected next year.

Mike stop speaking complete kak - Frans does not have to prove a thing, he proved ages ago his worth at test level. If you wanted proof of a player imposing himself at test level go back and watch the first 2 tests against England this year. For crying out loud, Frans got the highest ratings amongst the Bok backs, he and JP were tops. What bloody rugby were you watching, sounds like the same crap re Hougaard at 9 this year. Also go check that great break by Frans when he beat two defenders with a step.....take it you were snoozing at that stage

Rubbish Fransie made less metres than Jean, made less tackles absolutely and on a  percentage basis. And crucially moved the ball on about half the time to Jean's 75% approx.

Steyn bottled up the Bok backline totally.

Get real about the Hougaard issue firstly.   Mattfield himself said on TV after the game yesterday - that Hougaard's performance this year was not up to standard.   Mattfield always was near the Bulls set up and he would not have been so open about it - if it was not evident to everyboidy looking at games without blinkers.   If I were you - I would not say the things you do about Hougaard - since everyone else says otherwise.   Mattfield himself said they are going to give special attantion to get him back into form.   Hope they are successful - since otherwise it would be a case of losing a potentially top player.

As to your statement on Sreyn - he did zilch of any note in the tests mentioned by you    I looked at the tests repeatedly and saw nowhere that he played any role whatsoever in any of the moves leading to Springbok tries and he was poor in not effectively off-loading a ball even once in a tackle situation.   Your support of Steyn was from an impression gained previously - not this year.   I think he has a lot to prove in future - and hope he does that.   If he plays like he did for the Springboks this year he will - despite Lambie and Jordaan - kill the backline play of the Sharks.    I hope he succeeds - but I for one is going to watch whether he makes the grade.     

Moz your take on the Frans vs Jean stats are complete bullshit. If we believed them we would have to conclude that Jean was better at centre than Frans this year. Not a single person would conclude that bar yourself and Mike. I'm afraid Mike's take on certain players is laughable, much like yours.
