Good old Morne
June 24, 2012, 12:53:48

Does this useless plodder have a god given right to stay on the field. The guy has got progressively worse every test culminating in a shocking performance yesterday. His decision making is pathetic and execution even worse. What he is doing in a Bok jersey is beyond me.

Does Meyer really think this very average rugby player, our pivot, is going to win us games against Oz and in particular the Kiwi's?

What really pissed me off, is that while Morne continued to fluff things, we had Jantjies sitting on the bench. How much worse did he have to perform in order to be subbed??

As for the rest, as predicted Aplon was poor at the back, the guy is far too small for test rugby and just not up to it. He added no value at all and had the Poms had more sense they would have targeted him more.

JP was once again good, Habana at best solid. Jean was average, Olivier was our best back, Hougaard had a very average test. The forwards as a whole were ok, with Coetzee being the best.

Bottom line is, the backline selected is not good enough to give us the edge. We have the forwards to dominate proceedings if they play like they did in the first half of the second test, but our backs are way off the mark.

The only backs that should be retained of this current crop are Lambie, JP, Habana, Frans, Hougaard and Pienaar.......we need to find another centre with clout and most importantly a flyhalf to ignite our backs.

I hope by some miracle, I never see Morne in the Bok side again - ever, he is useless

snapster those of us who understand sport realise that Morne has developed a gremlin in his kicking much like a golfer who has developed a slice. Its nothing that cant be solved though. Meyer will watch to see in these remaining three matches if Morne comes right.

Of course if Morne had been kicking goals like the machine we knew we would have won all tests comfortably even with a severely depleted match 22.

Question is if his kicking comes right should he be retained.

Beenkop, wake up.......I am not talking about his kicking. The guy is a bog ordinary rugby player who is incapable of igniting our backs. His option taking is poor, he now thinks that the answer if for him to take the ball up in an attempt to breach the defence. His execution here is pathetic - he either dies with the ball or fails to distribute to players in space, to players that are far better equipped to beat the opposition.

As for his kicking out of hand, well that has just been piss poor and thats being polite.

This guys first instinct is to kick the ball, followed by trying to run it himself - failing miserably on both accounts.

If Bok rugby is to move on Morne has to go NOW

Saffex

May we agree to disagree about De Villiers - he got one decent ball from the insider backs and make a wonderful break with that one - but nobody followed up and the end result was we lost possession.   I did not find him poor.   Olivier was better than usual - but he except for the pass mentioned he never passed a decent ball to De Villiers and play crash ball all the time.  Got through one or two tackles in teh process - but the ball died there.

The issue here also revolves around Hougaard.   He looks beuatiful when the forwards dominate - but flopped as scrummie if the fowards areno fully in control.   His service was slow and erratic.   Question remains  - is he really a scrummy?

No the issue is Morne......I am not too concerned about the rest. There is no question over Hougaards ability as a 9, yes he going through a patchy period, he has being playing 9 all his life, has a crisp service on him. His biggest issue is being charged down, that needs to be addressed.

The issue is the useless Morne, he needs to go NOW

Morne gained more metres in less runs than Olivier.....and Olivier was our best back?

Pienaar was a better flyhalf than Morne.

@mo are you sure those meters that you are talking about was while he was hanging on while a english forward was running towards the line ????

I think for to long we the boks have been hung up about two different styles of flyhalves. The kicker, Naas Botha and the Crasher. Henry Honriball. We never had a geniune play making flyhalf as long as I can remember.

So if we look back at the flyhalfs that we had over the last decade

Steyn - kicker

Butch - Crasher

Pienaar - Playmaker (Only a handful of test played at 10)

Braam van Straten - Crasher and Kicker

Henry Honriball - Crasher

Stransky - Kicker

Can't remember the rest now. But you see my point, we really need to start looking at more creative 10's. The all blacks have 2 fantastic players in Cruden and Barritt, both similar built, not very big but who likes to play with ball in hand but also posesses a competent kicking game.

The game has moved on, we should be investing in players such as Goosen, Jantjies, Lambie and Pollard as our future 10's

Lambie at 10 untill Johan Goosen is ready. Once Gossen is there Lambie should switch to 15 and stay there.

@Arthur John Yes Ruan was a better flyhalf. Much better running and distributing flyhalf and kick out of hand just as well. unfortunately his kicking at post was poor. If it was in the area where we had Percy to kick he would off excelled. Now however his kicking to post has been rediculously good. Check out some of his goal kicking for Ulster on Youtube. All that said though, Ruan should not play 10, he should play 9 only.

Morne should be discarded for good. Absoultely  dimensional and now even that dimension has gone to sh*t

@Kingcorn, I would have to disagree with your assesment of some of our flyhalfs-

Steyn - kicker  - I agree.

Butch - Crasher  - Disagree. Butch has also been a useful kicker, and can pass the ball. He played the ball flat and got his backs into the game as a play maker.

Pienaar - Playmaker (Only a handful of test played at 10)- I would say Piennar is also a good kicker, albeit he does seem to kick better from Scrum half than when in the flyhalf position.

Braam van Straten - Crasher and Kicker- I feel he is the worst flyhalf to have ever played for the boks. The only thing he could do was kick for poles and crash ball. His tactical kicking out of hand was terribale.

Henry Honriball - Crasher- I disagree totally on this one. Henry Honiball especially later in his career became the most all rounded flyhalf we have had. Good playmaker, the best crasher and kicking also became better and better.

Stransky - Kicker- Agreed.
